Got plans Friday, 12/20? No? Great. You are invited to the Windy City Knots Holiday Movie Party!
Fri, 12/20
8PM – 11 PM
(we’ll start the movie around 9pm — running time 2hrs 7min)
Before they made The Matrix trilogy, V for Vendetta, Cloud Atlas, or Sense8— Lana and Lilly Wachowski made a pioneering little indy flick called Bound.
The Chicago native Wachowskis twins (who initially worked under other names before coming out as women and transitioning), are known for their bold storylines. They have been pioneers in pushing the genre of science fiction further into the areas exploring identity, sexuality, and autonomy.
Ironic considering their sci fi career, Bound — their film debut — is a mobster-lesbian-film-noir action adventure with a delightfully pro-queer themes, a heist (of course!), and some on-screen lesbian bondage and fisting. (Trust me, it was radical in 1996.) Sex writer Annie Sprinkle worked as the intimacy consultant on the film after reading the script and telling the twins that the sex scene lacked specifics.
Then, the following day, don’t miss our last ropelab of the year:
Sat, 12/21
Intermediate Rope lab: 1PM – 4PM (afternoon!)
Remember, ropelabs do not have structure or topics and are an opportunity to work on anything you like.
