We had a great class on Saturday that was in many ways, the culmination of 5 months of Windy City Knots: Not only did we have a new intermediate rigger join us, but we made impressively made it through all of the beginner material (7 lessons) and not one but two of the fundamental floor ties in the Newaza section: The Hishi Diamond and the Butterfly. I chose both the Hishi and the Butterfly as the first two ties in the Intermediate section for good reasons: 1) The Hishi is an excellent introduction to munters and Half-hitches, and you can even start doing munters & half-hitches without really knowing what they are. The Butterfly is a classic harness that all Shibari riggers I know see as foundational for the Shibari journey.
What really set Saturday apart for me as the instructor and creator of WKC is how, when the students are ready, the learning can progress quickly and efficiently. That doesn’t mean everyone’s prepared at the same time, and indeed people have their own learning styles, the discovery of which is one of the most important things I can impress upon you as your instructor. So find your learning style and lean into it.
